OBSTACLE EXPERTISE

At CGX AERO, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive solutions for the aviation industry, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with international standards. Our expertise spans a wide range of services, including eTOD (electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data) development, obstacle database management, and obstacle assessment services.

Through our collaborative approach and our commitment to excellence, we offer tailored assistance in navigating the complexities of airspace management and obstacle mitigation. Explore our range of services below to discover how CGX AERO can support your aviation needs.

eTOD SERVICES

The provision of reliable obstacle information to airspace users entered a new phase with the advent of eTOD.
With its operation-focused approach, eTOD datasets can serve a multitude of applications, ranging from airline operations to Instrument Flight Procedure design.
Achieving eTOD compliance with ICAO standards presents significant challenges, involving numerous stakeholders and demanding precise task synchronization.

Managing an eTOD database, however, constitutes a powerful tool that caters to various applications, primarily in aviation safety, flight planning, obstacle assessment, airspace management, and terrain awareness systems.

CGX AERO, in collaboration with its partners ecosystem, offers comprehensive 360° assistance for eTOD development and integration. From formulating national eTOD policies to Data Processing Systems (DPS), eTOD visualization, integration, data survey campaigns, and eTOD mapping, CGX AERO provides support for:

  • Defining eTOD requirements

  • Executing eTOD survey campaigns

  • Validating eTOD datasets

  • Publishing eTOD products

OBSTACLE DATABASE AND OBSTACLE CHARTS

Following data acquisition, several obstacle charts require updating to maintain the highest situational awareness for airport airspace users.
CGX AERO employs dedicated Aeronautical Charting tools, fully GIS-based and Annex 4 compliant, to generate and/or update airport obstacle charts. Our charting unit is flexible and can adapt to local charting policies to customize chart layouts to the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) framework.

OBSTACLE LIMITATION SURFACES ASSESSMENT SERVICES & OBSTACLE PENETRATION MITIGATION

When terrain and obstacle environments become critical, airports must conduct regular obstacle monitoring activities to continually evaluate operational safety levels and perform risk assessments regarding penetrating obstacles.

Beyond data acquisition, our team provides assistance in obstacle impact analysis, offering feedback and recommendations for the best solutions to mitigate obstacle impacts. In cases where obstacle removal procedures are not feasible, our experts evaluate the benefits of obstacle lighting, marking, charting highlights, or operational adaptations.

With a steadfast commitment to finding the best trade-offs for airports while ensuring operational safety, CGX AERO stands ready to support in monitoring and managing your obstacle environment.

AIRPORT SAFEGUARDING MAPS

While obstacle monitoring serves as a crucial reactive measure for airport safety, it should not be the sole means of protection against obstacles. The inherent limitations of obstacle monitoring often make it challenging to manage side effects and mitigate impacts on operations once obstacles are identified.
To address this, implementing proactive tools and methods becomes essential to safeguard airports from potential hazards. By fostering coordination between airports and surrounding communities, the development of safeguarding maps or constructability maps becomes a key activity. These maps enable non-aviation experts to assess building capacities around the airport, providing direct feedback on available altitude and/or height.

The elaboration of safeguarding maps can be done from various inputs, including:

  1. Annex 14 obstacle limitation surfaces

  2. Annex 10 NAVAIDs Building Restricted Area

  3. ICAO DOC 8168 PANS-OPS protection areas

By incorporating these inputs, airports can proactively mitigate risks and ensure safer operations, emulating harmonious coexistence with neighboring cities.

Our team of experts is well-equipped to support you in creating safeguarding maps in various Geographic Information System (GIS) formats. Implementing such solutions for your airport can significantly reduce the need for multiple aeronautical studies, thereby optimizing your staff availability and operational efficiency.
