Empowering the Future of Aviation: Highlights from the Workshop on Digital Transformation & Airspace Design

Muscat, Oman – November 26 & 28, 2024

The Workshop on Digital Transformation & Airspace Design held at the Oman Civil Aviation Authority Training Center in Muscat marked a significant step forward for the aviation industry. Over two impactful days, this event brought together key stakeholders from Oman CAA and Oman Military Aviation to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and explore innovative solutions for the future of aviation.

Day 1: Digital Transformation, eTOD, and AMDB

The first day focused on the transition from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management (AIM), emphasizing the role of digital solutions in improving safety, data accuracy, and operational efficiency. Key topics included the implementation of Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data (eTOD) and the use of Aerodrome Mapping Database (AMDB) for enhancing aerodrome mapping processes.

The day began with opening remarks by:

  • His Excellency Nabil HAJLAOUI, French Ambassador in Oman,

  • Eng. Saleh Abdullah Nasser Al Harthy, Director General of Air Navigation at Oman CAA, and

  • Mr. Mohamed-Ali MGALLES, Head of Innovation and Business Development at CGX AERO.

Their speeches set the tone for insightful discussions on the digital transformation of aeronautical information management, highlighting the importance of embracing advanced technologies.

Day 2: Airspace Design – Challenges and Opportunities

On November 28, the focus shifted to airspace restructuring, with sessions exploring ways to enhance safety, capacity, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Experts discussed the critical role of regulatory frameworks, stakeholder coordination, and data-driven decision-making in successful airspace design.

The day featured engaging presentations from:

  • Mr. Farid ZIZI from FRACS, and

  • Mr. Amine Bach-Chaouch from CGX AERO,

who shared insights from real-world case studies, including Bogota TMA and Ho Chi Minh & Hanoi TMAs, offering practical lessons on overcoming airspace design challenges.

We sincerely thank Oman Civil Aviation Authority and ANKAA for their invaluable collaboration in organizing this workshop, as well as Business France for its support. A special appreciation goes to all participants from Oman CAA and Oman Military Aviation, whose engagement and contributions were crucial to the event's success.

This workshop demonstrated how digital transformation and airspace restructuring can lead to a more innovative, efficient, and safer future for aviation. We look forward to continuing this collaborative journey and reshaping the future of the industry together.
